The Authority\u2019s main objective is to safeguard players and society from gambling related harm while fostering and supporting a sustainable gambling sector. To achieve this goal, the NBA developed the Responsible Gaming Action Plan for 2018\u20132022, outlining the Authority\u2019s strategic direction regarding responsible gambling and minimising the negative effects of problem gambling. The goal of this Action Plan was to set principles and guidelines for the implementation of various initiatives and the coordination of partnerships between stakeholders regarding responsible gambling. This Action Plan was the NBA\u2019s first effort to establish a structured framework for the prevention of gambling harm and protection of society from problem gambling.<\/p>\n

The Authority has drafted its Safer Gambling Strategy for 2022\u20132025 (hereinafter referred to as the \u201cStrategy\u201d) to build and improve upon its previous strategic plan and taking into consideration the shift towards a public health approach to gambling harm. Keeping players and communities safe while realizing the social and economic benefits of gambling is at the heart of a public health approach to safer gambling.8 Since the introduction of the first Responsible Gaming Action Plan, the adoption of a safer gambling lens has increased globally. The idea of \u201cresponsible gaming\u201d suggests players are primarily responsible for protecting themselves, whereas \u201csafer gambling\u201d acknowledges that in addition to individual responsibility, it is also the responsibility of the state and its institutions, gambling<\/p>\n

operators, and all stakeholders involved to ensure the external factors that can negatively impact people who gamble are addressed. Safer gambling is rooted in a public health approach which aims to reduce harms from gambling across society.<\/p>\n

Public health approaches to gambling reflect an evolution in the understanding of gambling-related harms in four main ways:<\/p>\n

  1. Drivers of gambling harms are complex, and many occur outside of an individual\u2019s direct control<\/li>\n
  2. There are individual, community, and societal benefits and costs to gambling<\/li>\n
  3. Prevention and treatment strategies should target all levels of harms<\/li>\n
  4. Preventing and reducing gambling-related harms requires collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This new strategic approach is fundamental for the Authority to progress its vision and mission of a fair, transparent, and safe gambling sector focused on reducing gambling-related harms.<\/p>\n

    The Strategy is evidence-based, makes good use of best practices, and includes a measurement framework that supports quantifying, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of the strategic actions and initiatives taken to enact the Strategy. Action plans that complement the Strategy will outline the priority areas, initiatives, and key indicators for monitoring the success and effectiveness of the initiatives for each year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    The National Betting Authority acknowledges the necessity of having a comprehensive strategy for the successful operation of the betting sector and for minimizing excessive betting. Hence, it has developed a strategy based on social sensitivity and the promotion of a responsible gaming mentality.<\/p>\n

    The aim of the Authority is to maintain the betting industry as entertaining and fun, and reduce problematic and pathological gambling behaviour, while at the same time promoting responsible participation in betting activities.<\/p>\n

    With the implementation of Action Plan 2018-2022 on Responsible Gaming, the Authority sets the protection of society and vulnerable groups as a priority, without leaving aside its role to ensure smooth betting activity. Sector\u2019s supervision and regulation, promotes the improvement of the economy and the sustainable development of betting activity to diminish negative impacts.<\/p>\n

    Responsible Gaming strategy encompasses a variety of actions designed to achieve the Authority\u2019s objectives and defines several priority areas. The Responsible Gaming strategy has been built on the following topic areas, which consist the Authority\u2019s basic objectives:<\/p>\n

    • Education of society and stakeholders<\/li>\n
    • Promotion of responsible gaming<\/li>\n
    • Prevention and combating gambling addiction<\/li>\n
    • Protection of young people and vulnerable social groups from gambling addiction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      For a more efficient accomplishment of these objectives, the following priority pillars have been created in order to respond to the strategy\u2019s objectives fully:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n
